The Evolution of Metastatic Prostate Cancer Under Treatment Pressure: Anticipating and Exploiting Pathways of Resistance

NCI ’ s Center for Cancer Research (CCR) Grand Rounds Dr. Peter Nelson is a Member in the Divisions of Human Biology and Clinical Research, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and Professor of Medicine in the Division of Medical Oncology at the University of Washington. He received an M.D. degree and completed residency training at the University of Kansas, received post-doctoral training at the National Institutes of Health through a biotechnology fellowship, and completed clinical medical oncology training at the Hutchinson Cancer Center and University of Washington. Dr. Nelson has an active clinical practice caring for men with advanced prostate cancer and is Head of the Prostate Cancer Program in the Fred Hutch/University of Washington Cancer Consortium and Principal Investigator of the Pacific Northwest Prostate Cancer Specialized Program in Research Excellence (SPORE). His current areas of research focus on understanding the role of androgens and the androgen receptor (AR) in prostate cancer; determining the role of the tumor microenvironment (TME) in cancer biology – particularly treatment resistance; characterizing factors contributing to prostate cancer predisposition; and determining the molecular mechanisms driving resistance to therapeutics targeting the AR and other oncogenic programs.Air date: 9/7/2018 12:00:00 PM
