First-time observation of genetic/physiological damage caused by nanoplastics in mussels

(Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona) Researchers at the UAB, in collaboration with the University of Aveiro, Portugal, were able to confirm for the first time that small concentrations of nanoplastics cause genetic and physiological damage in the Mediterranean mussel Mytilus galloprovincialis. The research was recently published in Science of the Total Environment.
