Different Patterns Of Alcohol Consumption And The Incidence And Persistence Of Depressive And Anxiety Symptoms Among Older Adults In Ireland: A Prospective Community-Based Study
Alcohol use disorder (AUD) frequently co-occurs with depression and anxiety disorders (Chou et al., 2012; Grant et al., 2015; Lai et al., 2015). However, the associations of different patterns of alcohol consumption and incident depression and anxiety among older adults remain unclear. For example, a recent prospective study found that moderate consumption of wine may be associated with a lower risk of incident depression, whilst heavier drinkers appeared to be at higher risk (Gea et al., 2013).
