SFRP1 Promoter Methylation and Renal Carcinoma Risk: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

CONCLUSION: Our results indicate that the methylation level of the SFRP1 promoter region is increased in patients with RCC compared to normal controls and might be involved in the occurrence and development of RCC. Additional well-designed studies are needed to further verify our conclusions. PMID: 29731501 [PubMed - in process]

ConclusionsThe clinical outcomes of RePN were not significantly different compared with those of iPN for patients with sporadic RCC of a solitary kidney. RePN is technically feasible with acceptable complication and local recurrence rates with better postoperative kidney function.

Authors: Jiang W, Cao C, Shi H, Shou J, Wang D, Wen L, Li C, Ma J Abstract PURPOSE: Previous reports showed that some patients with renal cell carcinoma (RCC) and renal vein tumor thrombus (RVTT) were misdiagnosed pre-operatively. To improve the accuracy of this diagnosis, the clinical characteristics of RCC with missed RVTT diagnosis were analyzed. METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed RCC patients with RVTT between January 2000 and December 2015. The survival analysis was estimated using the Kaplan-Meier method. The Cox proportional hazard models were applied to identify risk factors. RESULTS: The missed d...

In this study, we aim at evaluation the role of the Asp148Glu (rs1130409) variant at apurinic/apyrimidinic endonuclease (APE) gene in renal cell carcinoma (RCC) risk and the contribution of different genotypes to its transcriptional mRNA levels. In the case-control study, 92 RCC patients and 580 cancer-free patients matched by age and gender were recruited. The apurinic/APE genotyping work was conducted with typical restriction fragment length polymorphism methodology after polymerase chain reaction. At the meanwhile, thirty renal tissue samples with variant genotypes were examined for their apurinic/APE mRNA and protein e...

In this report, we describe the case of a 66-year-old male who presented with mRCC with lung and cardiac metastases treated with cabozantinib, a multikinase inhibitor that was administered in second line after disease progression with sunitinib. To date, there are no data about the safety and efficacy of cabozantinib in mRCC with cardiac metastasis. In a real word analysis, cabozantinib demonstrated to be associated to a modest risk of developing left ventricular heart failure. It is unknown if this risk is higher in mRCC population with cardiac metastases. We report the first evidence of efficacy and safety of cabozantini...

Authors: Pavlović I, Pejić S, Radojević-Škodrić S, Todorović A, Stojiljković V, Gavrilović L, Popović N, Basta-Jovanović G, Džamić Z, Pajović SB Abstract Introduction: The oxidative stress contributes to all three phases of carcinogenesis and represents a concomitant condition in renal cell carcinoma (RCC). RCC is the most common type of neoplasm of the kidney, and despite numerous studies the set of predictive and prognostic markers of survival are still unknown. The aim of our study was to examine the relation between antioxidant (AO) status and overall survival (OS) in RCC patients. Materi...

ConclusionsSeveral TKIs are standard of care at different settings. Among those approved TKIs, tivozanib has similar efficacy than others with a better safety profile. The use of prognostic factors is critical to the selection of optimal therapy.

In conclusion, E2 F1, E2 F3 and E2 F4 may function as oncogenes during tumorigenesis of ccRCC, although they contribute to the progression of ccRCC in different ways. Additional studies are required to clarify the conflicting role of E2 F4 in the tumor evolution of ccRCC.

AbstractObjectives(1) To assess the methodological quality of radiomics studies investigating histological subtypes, therapy response, and survival in patients with renal cell carcinoma (RCC) and (2) to determine the risk of bias in these radiomics studies.MethodsIn this systematic review, literature published since 2000 on radiomics in RCC was included and assessed for methodological quality using the Radiomics Quality Score. The risk of bias was assessed using the Quality Assessment of Diagnostic Accuracy Studies tool and a meta-analysis of radiomics studies focusing on differentiating between angiomyolipoma without visi...
