Don ’t Pass the Peanuts: Donor-Derived Nut Allergy in Lung Transplant
Nut allergy is a leading cause of fatal allergic reactions, and case reports of food allergy transfer after solid organ transplantation have been described. Potential donor-derived transmission events reported to the United Network for Organ Sharing Disease Transmission Advisory Committee (DTAC) are reviewed and classified according to disease transmission likelihood. We sought to better understand transmission of nut allergy in thoracic transplantation and to consider potential mitigation strategies.
