Children's Food Preferences and Education Programs

Our Journal of Nutrition Education and Behavior (JNEB) authors have a long history of research with young children and their eating habits to inform the best educational strategies to mold behavior. For instance, in 1980, Dr. Leann Birch published an article with JNE(B) describing the relationship between preschool children's food preferences and those of their parents (n  = 128).1 Foods were divided into 4 categories: fruits, vegetables, sandwiches, and snacks. Although data were not presented in each of the 4 categories (only as 1 dataset), there were weak correlations between the preferences of the parents and those of the children, with few being statisticall y significant.
