Comparative genomics of rmtB-carrying IncI1 ST136 plasmids in avian escherichia coli isolates from chickens in China
The 16S rRNA methylase gene rmtB, which encodes a gene product conferring high-level resistance to aminoglycosides, was first described in Serratia marcescens in 2004 [1] and is most prevalent 16S rRNA methylase gene among Enterobacteriaceae strains isolated from humans and animals in China [2 –5]. In addition, rmtB is usually located between the Tn2 transposon and insertion elements such as IS26 and ISCR1 [6,7] and it often coexists with other genes such as blaCTX-M, which encodes an extended-spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL), or fosA3, which confers resistance to fosfomycin in multidrug-re sistant Enterobacteriaceae worldwide [8–11].
