Authors: Pierce M, Hope HF, Kolade A, Gellatly J, Osam CS, Perchard R, Kosidou K, Dalman C, Morgan V, Di Prinzio P, Abel KM Abstract BACKGROUND: Children of parents with mental disorder face multiple challenges. AIMS: To summarise evidence about parental mental disorder and child physical health. METHOD: We searched seven databases for cohort or case-control studies quantifying associations between parental mental disorders (substance use, psychotic, mood, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive, post-traumatic stress and eating) and offspring physical health. Studies were excluded if: they reported perinatal outcomes only (

ConclusionsThe current study on a limited series of patients contributes to confirm that pasireotide may be considered a valid option for treatment of patients with CD, although it requires an appropriate management of  adverse events, especially hyperglycaemia.

ConclusionSG leaks can add long-term morbidity. Stent can be used successfully to treat SG leak if used judiciously. There should be low threshold for investigating patients with EWL of>  100% for anatomical complications like stricture, fistula or kink in the gastric sleeve. We wanted to make the bariatric fraternity aware of a rare late (>  12 weeks) complication of gastro-colic fistula after successfully treated SG leak. Limited literature is published about this rare complication and its management which ranges from conservative management to stent placement to surgical intervention (Asian Jour...

In this study, we found that cofilin competes with tau for direct microtubule binding in vitro, in cells, and in vivo, which inhibits tau-induced microtubule assembly. Genetic reduction of cofilin mitigates tauopathy and synaptic defects in Tau-P301S mice and movement deficits in tau transgenic C. elegans. The pathogenic effects of cofilin are selectively mediated by activated cofilin, as active but not inactive cofilin selectively interacts with tubulin, destabilizes microtubules, and promotes tauopathy. These results therefore indicate that activated cofilin plays an essential intermediary role in neurotoxic signaling th...

In conclusion, our study might provide evidence that GQD treats diarrhea maybe involved in modulating gut microbiota and increasing SCFA levels. Introduction Diarrheal diseases cause approximately 1.7 billion new infections and 0.76 million deaths in children of under 5 years of age annually and are thus the second most common cause of mortality in young children in developing countries (Kotloff et al., 2012, 2013). Outbreaks of such diseases are usually related to infection by common causative agents, mainly rotavirus, Salmonella enterica, and diarrheagenic Escherichia coli (Hodges and Gill, 2010; Kolenda et al., ...

CONCLUSIONS: Abdominal pain after gastric bypass is a frequent cause of admission to the emergency department. Besides the more serious complications, internal hernia is often withheld as possible diagnosis in the differential diagnosis of late onset, postprandial epigastric pain. This case report highlights another possibility. At initial surgery, a candy cane shaped blind loop should be avoided both at the gastro-jejunal as well as the entero-enteric anastomosis. This study is registered with ClinicalTrials.gov, number NCT02139813, and is now completed.FindingsFrom May 13, 2014, to March 2, 2016, of 261 patients screened for eligibility, 253 (97%) were randomly assigned to OAGB (n=129) or RYGB (n=124). Five patients did not undergo their assigned surgery, and after undergoing their surgery 14 were excluded from the per-protocol analysis (seven due to pregnancy, two deaths, one withdrawal, and four revisions from OAGB to RYGB) In the per-protocol population (n=117 OAGB, n=117 RYGB), mean age was 43·5 years (SD 10·8), mean BMI was 43·9 kg/m2 (SD 5·6), 176 ...
