AbstractPurposeAccording to the World Health Organization (WHO), 34.7% of females in the United States are obese (BMI  ≥ 30) in 2014, compared to 32.5% in 2010. The previous research has demonstrated high BMI as an independent risk factor for surgical complications after breast surgery. As more patients become obese, we sought to examine whether increasing obesity had an effect on outcomes of women who underwen t a unilateral mastectomy without breast reconstruction.MethodsThe study reviewed the 2007 –2012 ACS-NSQIP database and identified all patients who underwent a unilateral mastectomy without recons...

Metastatic carcinoma of the uterus usually originates from other genital sites, most frequently from the ovaries. Rationale: Understanding the status of internal mammary lymph nodes of breast cancer is critical in the accurate staging of breast cancer and the development of accurate therapeutic regimen for selected patients. Current techniques for dissection of internal mammary lymph node biopsy involve endoscopic or Traditional thoracic surgery, An important drawback of the current techniques is the great trauma caused by them. CONCLUSION: Comprehending and managing the main risk factors can minimize complications; however, they would not be eliminated. Moderate and severe complications may increase the mortality rates, particularly in high-risk patients. PMID: 29052825 [PubMed - in process]

A 62-year-old white female with a history of early-stage triple-negative breast cancer on a combination of carboplatin and paclitaxel in the adjuvant setting presented with lower gastrointestinal bleeding. She tolerated 4 cycles of dose-dense adriamycin/cyclophosphamide with no major symptoms. After 6 cycles of weekly paclitaxel in combination with carboplatin every 3 weeks, she presented with diarrhea and lower gastrointestinal bleeding. Colonosopic examination showed erythema and inflammation in the splenic flexure, descending colon, and sigmoid colon consistent with ischemic colitis. Pathology favored the same diagnosis...

Semin Thromb Hemost DOI: 10.1055/s-0037-1604086The modified Ottawa score (MOS) predicted venous thromboembolism (VTE) recurrence in a cohort of patients with cancer-associated thrombosis mainly managed on an outpatient basis. We aimed to assess the prognostic value of the MOS in hospitalized patients with cancer-associated thrombosis. In 383 hospitalized patients with cancer-associated VTE from the SWIss VTE Registry, 98 (25%) were classified as low risk, 175 (46%) as intermediate risk, and 110 (29%) as high risk for VTE recurrence based on the MOS. Clinical end points were recurrent VTE, fatal VTE, major bleeding, and ove...
