This study provides a valuable perspective on the timing of ILND following the rare diagnosis of penile cancer. In this retrospective evaluation of 84 patients without distant metastases who underwent ILND for squamous cell carcinoma of the penis from 1994 through 2014 the authors used Cox proportional hazard analyses to determine that men treated with early ILND (ie within 3 months of primary surgery) were less likely to have disease recurrence than those treated with late ILND (HR 0.48, 95% CI 0.21 –0.98).
