Sapophagia: A Case of Irish Spring Soap Pica

A 37-year-old woman presents to the emergency department with stomach pain, nausea, and vomiting. Her vital signs are as follows: blood pressure, 165/78 mm Hg; heart rate, 52 beats per minute; respiratory rate, 18 breaths per minute; oxygen saturation, 99% on room air; and oral temperature, 37.1 °C (98.7°F). She vomited at least 5 times prior to arrival. Her weight is 215 lb, and her height is 5 ft 4 inches. Her urine pregnancy screen is negative. She is not taking any prescription medications and has not been seen by a physician since shortly after the birth of her 4-year-old child.
