Exploratory Clinical Trial Grants in Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (R21)

Funding Opportunity PAR-14-192 from the NIH Guide for Grants and Contracts. The goal of this FOA is to foster the development and implementation of interventional exploratory clinical trials aimed at providing clinically meaningful improvements in symptoms, function or disease course for patients with rheumatic, musculoskeletal or skin diseases. The trials must address research questions related to the mission and goals of the NIAMS and may evaluate drugs, biologics, devices, or surgical, dietary, behavioral or rehabilitation therapies. This Exploratory Clinical Trials Grants Program is designed to facilitate the execution of creative, short-term interventional studies to obtain the experimental data needed to launch future clinical trials. The proposed trials should strive to investigate new ideas and may use creative trial designs. Proposed studies should focus on research questions that have the potential to contribute critical clinically-relevant data in support of a future, more robust clinical trial, or that can impact and benefit clinical decision making at the patient level.
