Teaching through Collections

The objectives of this agreement are to further the University of Alaska Fairbanks, Museum of the North (UAMN) mission of sharing research and collections through the creation of educational resources, materials, and curricula with museum collections. Through teacher training and development of educational resources for elementary and secondary level school educators and students, the history and cultural resources of central Alaska and value of museum collections will be shared with the public. (2) UAMN will provide a teacher workshop where they will share the important cultural resources of the Denali area with Denali community educators and help them develop lessons and/or teaching kits to share these resources with students. UAMN will then develop an online portal for lesson plans and a virtual exhibit utilizing UAMN and Denali NP&P museum collections. The NPS will be substantially involved in these activities by providing access to their collections, providing funding, and reviewing lesson plans and the digitized content. UAMN will also lead delivery of a public outreach event in the Denali Borough focused on connecting locals to museum collections and activities developed related to the collections.
