La mortalit é spécifique en urologie dans un hôpital de référence au Sénégal: analyse d’une série de 132 décès

Conclusion Dans notre centre, la mortalité spécifique reste élevée et les causes sont dominées par les cancers urologiques. Objective To identify the causes of deaths in a urology department of sub-Saharan Africa. Patients and Methods This is a retrospective study including all deaths between February 2010 and February 2014. The parameters studied were age at death, gender, co-morbidities, hospital stay and the cause of death. Results The number of deaths was 132 including 7 women and 125 men. Hospital mortality was 2.9%. The average age of deceased patients was 63,6 (median age 66). The most concerned age group was between 61 and 80 years. The operative mortality was 0.8%. There were co-morbidity factors in 28% of cases. Cancer was the cause of death in 51.5% of cases. Prostate cancer was the cause of death in 32 cases (47.1%), bladder cancer in 16 cases (23.5%), kidney cancer in 14 cases (20.6%), testicular cancer in 4 cases (5.8%) and cancer of the penis in 2 cases (2.9%). Mortality from non-cancer diseases was dominated by chronic urinary retention and cellulitis of the external genitalia. Conclusion In our center, specific mortality remains high and the causes are dominated by urological cancers.
