Zika, Dengue, and Chikungunya Viruses: American Association of Blood Banks Bulletin
American Association of Blood Banks. 02/01/2016This eight-page bulletin provides the rationale for blood community action to address the potential threat of Zika virus to blood recipients. Its focus is Zika virus, but the measures described should also be effective for chikungunya and dengue viruses. It includes information about the potential for transfusion-transmitted Zika infection, and a recommendation to facilitate self-deferral of donors who have traveled to countries that are already experiencing Zika epidemics or those that are likely to experience such epidemics in the near future.
