The life of breath: the role of stem cells in lung maintenance and repair

NIH Director’s Wednesday Afternoon Lecture Series The goal of the Hogan laboratory is to understand how resident stem and progenitor cells maintain the complex tissue architecture and multiple functions of the mammalian lung. They also use a variety of strategies to understand how stem cells restore lung function following different kinds of damage, and how cytokines and other agents impact the stem cell niche. Their work involves mouse genetic models, organoid cultures and the genetic manipulation of primary cells derived from the human lung.
