Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) has been used for more than 80 years as a highly effective treatment for drug-resistant psychiatric disorders such as depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and catatonia. Despite this treatment ’s remarkable efficacy, its mechanism of action remains unknown.
