Long-term remission of candidiasis with fermented lingonberry mouth rinse in an adult patient with APECED.

APECED, or autoimmune polyendocrine syndrome type 1 (APS-1), is a disease caused by mutations in the autoimmune regulator (AIRE) gene [1]. The consequent impaired immune responses formation of organ-specific autoantibodies (AABs). Disorder manifestations are broad, including organ-specific autoimmunity and chronic mucocutaneous candidiasis (CMC) [2]. Patients need lifelong follow-up and hormone replacement therapy. T helper 17 (Th17)-type adaptive immune response is crucial in the mucosal defense against Candida infections [3].
