<Editors' Choice> Thoracic endovascular aortic repair and spinal cord injury

Nagoya J Med Sci. 2024 Feb;86(1):16-23. doi: 10.18999/nagjms.86.1.16.ABSTRACTWe previously reported that spinal cord injury following thoracic endovascular aortic repair for a thoracic aortic aneurysm is a micro embolism caused by a vulnerable mural thrombus. Conversely, patients who underwent thoracic endovascular aortic repair for aortic dissection develop spinal cord injury less frequently due to fewer mural thrombi. Paying attention to preserving blood flow toward the spinal cord, namely collateral circulation and steal phenomenon, prevents spinal cord injury following thoracic endovascular aortic repair for aortic dissection.PMID:38505712 | PMC:PMC10945219 | DOI:10.18999/nagjms.86.1.16
