Lung-on-a-Chip: A Novel Tool for Modeling Lung Transplant Ischemia Reperfusion Injury

Purpose: Current in vitro models used to investigate lung transplant (LTx) cold storage (CS) ischemia reperfusion injury (IRI) use cell lines in static culture. While these models have informed our understanding of CS IRI, they lack multicellular complexity, and do not recapitulate the physiological impact of breathing and perfusion. Here we utilized a commercially available lung organoid chip to develop a novel CS IRI model for use as a tool to dissect mechanisms that contribute to injury post LTx.
