Trajectory of Vasoactive-Inotropic Scores for Patients on Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation: A Linear Mixed Model Analysis

Purpose: Patients with shock often require manipulation of hemodynamic parameters to maintain end-organ perfusion. To equate amounts of vasoactive and inotropic medications that a patient receives, the vasopressor inotrope score (VIS) provides a reproducible index. Patients who, despite the addition of vasoactives, remain insufficiently supported, may be candidates for extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). The primary purpose of this investigation was to identify peri-cannulation VIS trends.
