Performance of the National OCS Program (NOP) in US Heart and Lung Transplants
Purpose: NOP utilizes a national network of dedicated cardiothoracic surgical procurement and Organ Care System (OCS) ex-vivo perfusion clinical expertise. The NOP was established to: maximize the utilization of donor hearts and lungs for transplantation; overcome the logistical and infrastructural burden of distant donor organ procurement and national allocation; standardize the clinical quality of care for ex-vivo perfusion and assessment of cardiothoracic allografts by minimizing learning curves; and to optimize clinical resource utilization at transplant programs.
