Fundoplication in Patients with Connective Tissue Disease Undergoing Lung Transplantation

Purpose: Connective tissue disease (CTD) is associated with a high incidence of esophageal dysmotility and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). Current recipient selection guidelines consider esophageal dysmotility a relative contraindication with a high or substantially increased risk for poor outcomes. Fundoplication may mitigate the risk of GERD-related chronic graft injury but is often avoided in the setting of CTD and esophageal dysmotility. Our objective is to examine the effects of fundoplication on graft function in this high-risk population.
