Hospice in Heart Failure is Visible, Yet Still Out of Reach for Many
Palliative care is included in the latest heart failure guidelines in Europe, the United States, and Japan.1-3 All heart failure guidelines define palliative care as a multidisciplinary approach aimed at relieving the physical, psychological, and spiritual distress of patients and caregivers. They emphasize the importance of palliative care in all stages of heart failure with integration early in the trajectory of illness. They also agree that palliative care should include symptom management, communication about prognosis and life-sustaining therapies, and advance care planning (ACP).
