Influence of Clinical Status and Dissection Morphology on Transfusion Volume in Acute Aortic Dissection Surgery

Objective: Aortic dissection repair poses a high bleeding risk, owing to fragile aortic tissue and concomitant coagulopathy. Although patient blood management is important in cardiovascular surgery for resource saving, there are no guidelines regarding transfusion strategies for aortic dissection surgery. In a two part study, the influence of clinical status and dissection morphology on transfusion volume in patients with acute type A aortic dissection (ATAAD) was investigated.
