New Prevention Guidance for Antibiotic-Resistant Meningococcal Cases

Physicians prescribe the antibiotic ciprofloxacin to prevent meningococcal disease among close contacts of people with confirmed illnesses. But cases of meningococcal disease caused by ciprofloxacin-resistant bacteria have risen over the past decade, leading the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to recently announce new guidance.
