The Intersection of Autism Spectrum Disorder, Food Allergy, and Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder: A Clinical Case Study
“B K” was a 10-year-old male who presented for evaluation and treatment by our multidisciplinary pediatric feeding team located in the Southeast United States. He presented with formula dependence and total food refusal. B and his family traveled from a different region of the US to access subsp ecialty care due to the medical urgency of B’s feeding problems. He was receiving 100% of his nutritional needs from hypoallergenic formula and accepted a limited number of foods (e.g., beef jerky, chicken wings) by mouth that he would masticate but spit out before swallowing.
