6. Hypothetical Impact of Intervening on Socioeconomic Disadvantage in Childhood to Reduce the Risk of Adolescent Obesity: Stratification by Polygenic Risk in a Population Cohort Study

We describe body mass index (BMI) by socioeconomic disadvantage and by polygenic risk in a population cohort of children. We then define causal effects using a target trial framework, whose public health implications lie in its ability to estimate real-world intervention effects. Using this causal inference framework, we examine whether hypothetically intervening to reduce childhood socioeconomic disadvantage could reduce adolescent obesity risk.
