Cardiovascular comorbidities are associated with dermatomyositis: A cross-sectional study in the All of Us Research Program

This study does not address how DM treatments (e.g. systemic steroids, methotrexate) might influence CVD development in DM and further investigation is warranted. Additional limitations include using EHRs which may have diagnostic inaccuracies/omissions, lack of data on clinical features/severity/subtype, and use of a non-representative U.S. cohort. Our findings are important both for prognosis and clinical care, suggesting DM patients should be screened for CVD risk factors to potentially reduce the increased risk of cardiovascular events and CVD-related mortality in DM.
