Body composition and malnutrition in chronic intestinal failure patients
Rationale: Chronic intestinal failure (CIF) mainly results from short bowel syndrome (SBS) or intestinal dysmotility (ID), and their primary, life-saving treatment is home parenteral nutrition (HPN). CIF patients are generally at high risk of malnutrition with an unfavourable body composition, i.e. low fat-free and high-fat mass. Since data are lacking, taking into account the background of CIF (SBS or ID), this study aimed to describe body composition and the prevalence of malnutrition in our concurrent CIF population.
