Serum myokine and bone turnover marker profile in prepubertal vegetarian children

Rationale: Vegetarian diets have several health benefits, but may also lead to inadequate intake of nutrients essential for maintaining muscle and bone status. Inadequate nutrient intake, particularly during infancy and childhood, may cause an imbalance in bone remodeling, leading to achieve lower bone mass. The aim of this study was to evaluate serum concentrations of myokines and bone metabolism markers in prepubertal children on vegetarian and omnivorous diets.
