Exploring the connection between Parkinson's disease and Sj ögren's syndrome: The aquaporin link

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a prevalent and progressive neurodegenerative condition affecting more than 1% of the population over the age of 60 years. The disease is characterized by the presence of α-synuclein aggregates and loss of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra. Recent large-scale genomic studies and advances in mechanistic understanding have shed light on the significance of misfolded synuclein aggregates, as well as abnormalities in crucial pathways related to protein cleara nce through the lysosomal-autophagy system, immune responses, and mitochondrial function.
