Risk Factors for Preoperative and Postoperative Seizures in Patients with Glioblastoma According to the 2021 World Health Organization Classification

Glioblastoma (GBM) is the most common and aggressive malignant primary brain cancer. At least 30 –45% of adult patients with GBM experience seizures as the presenting clinical sign, and another 10% to 30% develop seizures at some point during their disease course. [1–3] Preoperative GBM-related seizures (PRS) are more common in younger patients, with a peak incidence in the third to fifth d ecades of life. [4] While PRS correlates with longer survival, postoperative seizures (POS) may be a potential tumor marker for disease progression or recurrence.
