Submucosal nodule on the dorsal tongue

A 53-year-old Caucasian woman was referred for evaluation of a nodule on dorsum of tongue with one week of evolution, which appeared after the patient burned her tongue. The medical history was remarkable for breast cancer diagnosed 4 years ago, treated with surgery and chemotherapy. The patient reported to be smoker and occasionally drink alcohol. Clinically, the nodule was asymptomatic, well-delimited, covered by normal mucosa, firm on palpation, and measured approximately 2.0 cm (Figures 1A and B).
