Carotid intima layer thickness but not intima-media thickness is related to coronary artery calcification in type 2 diabetes individuals: results from the Brazilian Diabetes Study

Carotid intima-media thickness (cIMT) is inconsistent in predicting cardiovascular risk. This may stem from the variability of the media thickness (cM) outweighing the intimal thickness (cIT) as the sign of atherosclerosis. Thus, we evaluated in type 2 diabetes (T2D) individuals, the association between carotid measures and coronary calcification (CAC).
