Give Us Your Input on NIGMS ’ Reorganization

NIGMS supports basic research that increases our understanding of biological processes and lays the foundation for advances in disease diagnosis, treatment, and prevention. NIGMS also supports research in specific clinical areas that affect multiple organ systems: anesthesiology and peri-operative pain; clinical pharmacology common to multiple drugs and treatments; and injury, critical illness, sepsis, and wound healing. We have five scientific divisions that support research, research training, and capacity building in a range of scientific fields. To better serve the research community and to assist in managing our internal workloads, we propose reorganizing two of our scientific divisions: the Division for Research Capacity Building (DRCB) and the Division of Pharmacology, Physiology, and Biological Chemistry (PPBC). This reorganization involves creating a new branch within each of these two divisions: the Health Research and Development Programs Branch in DRCB and the Clinical and Systemic Sciences Branch in PPBC. We invite your input on the proposed organizational structure. More background and details on the reorganization, and the opportunity to provide your input, are available via an online form. Responses are anonymous. The public input period opens on July 17 and closes on July 21. Specific questions about this reorganization may be directed to Ayanna Vest.
