Izrael Milejkowski and Hunger Disease Study in the Warsaw Ghetto

Izrael Milejkowski (1887-1943), dermatologist and venerologist, and his research team conducted research starvation in the ghetto. The patients were taken to hospital wards, where they were monitored and subjected to various medical procedures. In meetings of the research team, the physicians reported their observations. This research led to a series of medical contributions that included descriptions of changes in diseases of hunger —starvation, anatomy, biochemistry, skin, cardiovascular, ocular, and blood morphology.
