Study protocol to assess the quality of life after preventive bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy in BRCA1/2 and PALB2 mutation carriers
Introduction: Pathogenic variants in BRCA1, BRCA2 and PALB2 genes are associated with a high lifetime breast cancer (BC) and a high or moderate ovarian cancer (OC) risk, respectively. Preventive bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy (PBSO) is a mortality reducing strategy recommended to healthy carriers at the age of 35 –40 or after completion of childbearing. The main reason for delaying surgery is women´s fear of the impact of premature menopause on quality of life and long-term health risks.
