Vascular Surgery in Low and Middle Income Countries: A State-of-the-Art Review

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) represents 32% of all global deaths. Studies have shown an increase in CVD prevalence and mortality with the most substantial increase in low- and middle- income countries (LMIC). Within LMICs, we sought to 1) measure the burden of CVD with respect to aortic aneurysm (AA), ischemic stroke (IS), and peripheral artery disease (PAD); 2) quantify surgical access to vascular surgery services; 3) identify challenges and solutions to addressing disparities.
