Influence of making beds on loads of airborne and surface-associated drug-resistant bacteria in patient rooms

Conclusions: The study results indicate the importance of wearing a face mask in combination with cautious handling techniques when making beds of patients carrying multidrug-resistant bacteria. If the carrier status of a patient is unknown, consideration should be given to protection measures during and shortly after bed making for staff and for other patients also present. Surface disinfection should be started not earlier than 30 minutes after the making of the bed.
