Decoding Neurodiverse Couples Therapy: A Solution-Focused Approach

This study incorporated both conversational analysis (CA) and observational behavioral coding (OBC) to distinguish “problem talk” and “solution talk” among a neurodiverse couple participating in Solution Focused Brief Therapy. Results indicated increased “problem talk” and lower levels of both types of reinforcement in the partner with ASD versus the neurotypical partner. These findings have clinical implications for and highlight the benefits of CA and OBC among neurodiverse couples.
