Doctorate Recipients from U.S. Universities : 2021 ( Data Tables )

These tables release data from the 2021 Survey of Earned Doctorates ( SED ) , an annual census of research doctorate recipients from U.S. universities. The tables include data on the representation of women, minorities, and temporary visa holders ; fields that are attracting doctorate students ; time to complete doctoral degree ; employment plans after graduation ; and educational pathways to the doctorate. Data will be available in several custom data tools, and a forthcoming ( December ) special report will highlight important trends in the U.S. doctorate-earning population. The SED is sponsored by the National Center for Science and Engineering Statistics ( NCSES ) within the National Science Foundation and by three other federal agencies : the National Institutes of Health, Department of Education, and National Endowment for the Humanities.
