AMWA Membership
Can someone please confirm if "one fee, all years" on the American Medical Women's Association means that I'll pay $55 total for my four pre-med years? Any info on this membership would be appreciated. Thank you! (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Audition Rotation and Research in OB/GYN?
How important is an audition? How much research do to recommend to match OB/GYN with average numbers otherwise? I ironically am involved in research that geared more towards mens health but have projects lined up women’s health related topics next. Might this give an impression of less interest than other applicants? Is this important? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

So, is OB/GYN primary care or not?
Heard it is. Heard it isn’t. As an M2 seriously interested since my youth in OB/GYN and having considered FM for a second in M1 year because of my interest in doing “a little of everything”, hope much primary care things do you get in OB/GYN? When do you defer back to PCP? Or do you? Would you refer to a specialist? Do many women list their OB/GYN as PCP? Is it Physician dependent? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

I ’m so sick of LGBTQ being “unprofessional”…
I feel like whenever I talk how I normally talk and express my opinions around attendings, I get a lot of backlash despite believing my opinion is well in the realm of both mature and realistic. I often wonder if this is how women felt giving a feminine perspective however long ago when medicine was more male-dominated. I feel like whenever I act like myself as a queer person, I’m dismissed at best and told not to say that at worst. I’m so sick of being judged by a cis-white male standard... Help needed with a sensitive situation (content warning, minor sexual assault-ish) Feeling vulnerable
Hello wise women and men of the psychiatry board. I’m based in Northern Ireland and I’ve finished my training. I’m temporarily covering a psychiatry of intellectual disability team (I’m appropriately trained and experienced for same). I’m not looking for protocol advice, as I’ve covered these angles (including incident report, discussion with clinical director, etc). It’s possibly relevant to mention that I’m a woman in my thirties. I was running a review clinic in a school a while back... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Transition from pre-PhD to pre-MD, graduating in 2 months
Hi everyone, I have contemplated becoming a doctor since I was 15 years old! I have tons of clinical experience from high school, but chose to pursue research (pre-PhD) in college. I’m a married woman turning 23 this year, and I still have a pull towards medicine that I can’t seem to shake. At a forum I attended last week, I listened to a women talk about her path to medicine, and a flood of memories came back about why I originally wanted to be a doctor… I was totally taken back with doubt... Sacral Fractures
Just want to share a change I am making. Now that I have been out for a while, I am realizing that sacral insufficiency fractures are not common, but do happen more than I would have expected. I see a couple of symptomatic fractures per year. Which again, since I treat a lot of pelvic patients the number is small. However, I went back carefully and all but one of them have something in common: they are all post-menopausal women with rectal cancer. Not a single one of them had a Gyn primary... Refusing a heart transplant
Hospital refusing heart transplant for man who won't get vaccinated Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston says its policy won't allow DJ Ferguson to have the surgery since not being vaccinated seriously hurts its chances for success and his long-term outlook. www.cbsnews.com I've never seen such an incredible display of standing by ones' principles. Bravo to you, sir! Know that as your heart beats its last pump you have remained strong in the face of medical oppression and adversity! (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Neuro sending pts to ED for LP
There's a neuro group locally that has made a habit of sending patients in for non-urgent LPs (mostly massively overweight women getting pseudotumour cerebri workups). We used to refuse however as of late, a couple of their midlevels have been writing down on the ED referrals "r/o meningitis" on patients who are afebrile, nonmeningeal and have had chronic headaches for months. Is it worth continuing to fight these? I'm not RVU based (salaried hospital employee) so I literally gain... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

IM Hospitalist vs Cardiology (women in medicine) Northeast
Hi everyone, Current senior resident in IM. I love cardiology, (and have considered applying) however, I also really enjoy general medicine. I am nervous about applying for this field at this current time in my life given other competing time commitments (ie family life). Wondering what is the lifestyle and salary like if I pursue IM Hospitalist for at least a few years. My primary concern is not salary however I do have a lot of student loans to pay back and so that is a factor. Looking... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)
