Is there Affirmative Action?
Data from past medical school acceptance rates show that there is affirmative action against Whites and especially Asians. I understand that this may be the case in private schools, but what about public schools in states that banned affirmative action like the University of Washington, the University of Florida, or the University of Michigan (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Idaho state residence vs Oregon state residence
Would I have a better chance at getting accepted as an Oregon resident or an Idaho resident? As far as I know the only schools this really makes a difference for is OHSU, University of Washington, and University of Utah. I grew up in Oregon, graduated from HS in Oregon, and both of my my parents still live there. After graduating HS, I went to college in Idaho and have been living here since graduation last spring (currently ID resident). From what I understand this means that I am going to... Opinions on University of Washington anesthesia program
Just interviewed there and really loved the program. Wanted to know if anybody had any opinions (good and bad) about the program, living in Seattle (expense of living, things to do), etc. Thanks! (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Ask me anything: Current first year
Hey guys, Im a current first year at the University of Washington. We just finished the first week of Fall quarter and prior to this we had a month of summer courses. So I have a pretty decent idea of the "adjustment period" or the "vibes" of dental school so far. If you guys have any questions about dental school in general, or study habits, whatever, just let me know. Id be glad to get back to ya. Ive also interviewed at Western and Colorado. So let me know if you wanna know why I... Ask me anything: Current first year (Source: Student Doctor Network)

3.5 sGPA, 3.6 cGPA, 507 MCAT. Washington Resident
Hi SDN-ers, I'm just wondering what my chances are for MD schools, especially the University of Washington (I'm a WA state resident). As the title says, I have a 3.5 sGPA, 3.6 cGPA, and a 507 MCAT. I was wondering if I should actually retake that MCAT. My score was destroyed because of my CARS (124). I will be applying the upcoming summer. I actually don't have much extracurriculars to be honest, which kind of worries me. I'm not part of any clubs, besides being in a social fraternity.... 3.5 sGPA, 3.6 cGPA, 507 MCAT. Academic programs on the West Coast
Hey folks, I found out last week I scored a 242 on Step 1. I'm not exactly sure what I want to do yet, but the things I'm considering tend to be on the more competitive side. Radiology and neurosurgery are my two top choices right now. Assuming I've checked off all the other boxes, do you think I have a shot at matching on the west coast with a 242? I know I can probably cross off the elite programs like UCSF, but what about some of the others? University of Washington is my #1, but all of... Out of State, State U Med School?
I really want to go to a State University medical school in a different state. For example, I really like the University of Washington medical school in Seattle. I know that they have quotas for people who live in the Pacific Northwest. They rarely accept people who do not live in the Pacific Northwest. How can I get into UW if I am out of state? Thank you! Official 2015-2016: LizzyM
I wanted to create this thread to get a feel for how others who have below a 70 LizzyM are doing currently this cycle. I've seen a lot of people get IIs early (thus far), but most of them are either LizzyM of >70 or have special circumstances. My Lizzy is 67-68 and currently for this cycle: CA Applicant, traditional Interviews: None Rejections: University of Washington (pre-secondary) Tulane University (pre-interview) Georgetown University... Washington (UW) vs UoP
Currently debating between the University of Washington school of dentistry and Pacific. I'm an in state student for UW and have a scholarship for UoP to where the overall cost of attending UoP is only ~20k more total. UW is a highly regarded dental school but I'm not sure if I want to practice in Washington or California yet, or if I want to specialize. UoP has very high percentage of students accepted into their top choice for specialty school (95% they told us at the interview), is a... Washington (UW) vs UoP (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Pre-Med: UW vs UCLA
Hi! Forgive me if this isn't the right place to post this as I haven't entirely acquainted myself with this forum. I was recently accepted into both UW (University of Washington) and UCLA (I'm still waiting on a few others but I think it'll come down to these two anyway). I would like some advice on which school to go to for pre-med. I know one is generally is considered more "prestigious" than the other but that isn't something I care about at all. Please help me make a decision by... Pre-Med: UW vs UCLA (Source: Student Doctor Network)
