Weekend Recipe: Grass-Fed Beef Bourguignon With Cauliflower Mash
This recipe is rich with goodness and flavor — and is comfort food at its best. The ingredients are simple: Quality grass-fed beef is married together with vegetables and a few glasses of full-bodied red wine. I’ve used carrot puree to thicken the Bourguignon sauce towards the end of cooking, which is a lovely way of thickening sauces without using refined white flours. Don’t overcook your cauliflower. Make sure to chop the ingredients finely before cooking and keep an eye on the cooking time. Blend it when hot, which will result in a creamy, white mash that tastes wonderful. This recipe is from my cookbo...

Is The ‘ Souping ’ Trend For You?
By Lisa Drayer, CNN (CNN) — When I first heard of “souping,” it brought me back to my clinical days working in a hospital, where pureed soups and other easy to digest foods — also known as “full liquids” — would be prescribed for patients recovering from gastrointestinal surgery, or those who had difficulty chewing or swallowing. Then I reflected upon how much I regularly enjoy soup, especially for the comfort it provides on cold, dreary days — even though, thankfully, I have no health issues that would require such an easily digestible meal. Soup is often my go-to in the w...

Former Dynasty star highlights UNISON ’s Pay Up Now! campaign
A new UNISON film, featuring former Dynasty actor Stephanie Beacham, takes a tongue-in-cheek look at why the government should give teaching assistants, paramedics, refuse collectors and other public service workers a pay rise. The two-minute satirical Pat on the Back film highlights the government’s hypocritical attitude to public servants – commending their dedication and hard work, yet refusing to lift the public sector pay cap, says UNISON. But behind UNISON’s spoof film is a serious message. Low pay not only harms individual employees and their families, it means services are run down as staff desert the public ...

3 nutrients for a sharp, ageless brain
For decades mainstream medicine told us that dying neurons are the problem with an aging brain. But the difference between an old brain and a sharp, young brain isn’t just neurons… You see, mental function depends on two kinds of brain cells. Neurons are just half the story. In fact, when scientists studied Albert Einstein’s brain they found he had a wealth of “other” brain cells that accounted for his genius.  I’m talking about “glia,” or “glial” brain cells. Scientists have known about glial cells for a long time. But they thought they were just support for the n...

Luteolin: How To Reduce Breast Cancer Risk
More than 100 women die of breast cancer in the U.S. every day. It's the second leading cause of cancer deaths in American women. But in my opinion, many of those women really die of a tragic medical error. Let me explain… Millions of women in the U.S. have taken Big Pharma's hormone replacement therapy (HRT). Their doctors prescribe it to try to relieve the symptoms of menopause. Like hot flashes, night sweats, mood swings and weight gain. But what the drug companies try to pass off as hormones are actually synthetic concoctions. They are fake versions of the estrogen and progesterone that your body makes n...
