How to Prevent and Treat Tonsil Stones
When I was a child, it was commonplace to remove tonsils. The thinking of the day was that tonsils didn’t serve much of a purpose. Much like the thinking of the day about the appendix. Now we know the tonsils serve as filters keeping bacteria, viruses, and foreign bodies that enter the mouth from making their way into the digestive system. When they do their jobs well, the trapped bacteria or viruses can cause a great deal of discomfort. In that regard, a sore throat is a sign that the tonsils are doing their job. For some people, especially adolescents, the tonsils can trap “mouth debris” (isn’t th...

Have All Your Staff Vaccinated and We Will Give You £1.4 Million Extra Funding, Says UK Government
Conclusion Nurses have always been thought of as natural born carers. To force them to have vaccinations by dangling a nice juicy carrot in front of them with a vaccine syringe on the end and saying that their patients will suffer if they do not have the vaccination is pure evil. This is nothing short of emotional blackmail. Why should the government think that it is right to deny hospitals much-needed funds all year and then say that the money is only available if they vaccinate their staff with dangerous and unnecessary vaccines? Let’s face it. If all staff members do decide to have the flu vaccine, “for the ...

Okay I learned a few things
I have had this stupid evil cold since Friday afternoon, June 28. It came to me courtesy of my husband. This is a normal event, one family member gets exposed to germs and brings them home to share with other family members. My theory on colds has always been to take good care of myself and basically ignore them unless I become fairly sick. Rarely does a cold send me to bed for more than a couple of extra naps. I have never had a problem with this theory. Ignorance keeps the colds away. This worked for decades. Not any more. In  the past 24 hours I have learned:- when you start to feel sick, stop RA drugs- when you start ...

Wheat Belliers share their wheat re-exposure experiences
How do we associate cause and effect? How do we KNOW when acid reflux, bowel urgency, depression, anxiety, asthma, joint pain and myriad other health complaints are due to consumption of modern wheat? Simple: When you can turn them on, turn them off, turn them on, turn them off, repeatedly and at will. For instance, avoid wheat, enjoy freedom from bowel urgency and the inconvenient and embarrassing searches for the nearest toilet. Have wheat, explosive return of symptoms. On again, off again: It is the consistent association that establishes a cause-effect relationship in an individual. Read the incredible descriptions fr...

Seeing is believing
Read this wonderful tale of freedom from the bonds of wheat’s grip over appetite, as well as relief from decades of Crohn’s disease. I am 42 years old and I work as a flight attendant. I eat an excellent diet, I exercise regularly and I live a very active lifestyle. I run approximately 30 km [about 18 miles] a week. I am 5’7” and weighed 160.2 lbs. I have been tracking my calories using the “MyFitnessPal” app on my iPhone for over a year and I have not been able to lose the 15-20 lbs that has crept up on me in the last 10 years. I carry the extra weight from the bottom of my rib cage to my mid-thighs....

Sore throats and the learned professional
aka American ER Doc Gone Walkabout… 022 Let’s take a single complaint – “sore throat” – and look at a few of the ways that it can be handled. Let’s say that we’re satisfied with having a good outcome with no further intervention, say 90% of the time. And, another 9% of the time we get a second chance on a “bounceback” to get it right. To do this we might develop a very simple algorithm. Ask the patient if it hurts, and ask if he had a fever. Ask the patient to open his mouth – if he can open it, get a Rapid Antigen Test for strep. If he can’t open it, get...

Is Expectorant provokes Surgical Intricacy?
Are we wondering what expectorant does in human? It is a cough syrup we intake during suppressive immunity and bacterial infections. Expectorants are made of different medicinal drugs entangled together to relieve a sufferer from dry cough and tickling throat. It is quite fascinating that it has been an end for cough syrups which solely contained pholcodine. This waving drug is also known as morpholinylethylmorphine which can be in syrup form on consumption. Initially it had no side effects in young ones as it would relieve the tickling throats and sore throat. Recent survey in Australia has suspected the drug could cause t...

Doctors should not be judged like resort hotels
You get to know people after a few days in paradise, sitting on lawn chairs in front of the pool. You talk about where you’re from and your kids (if you have them). You might spout off about your job or friends. These are the pleasant conversations exchanged between vacationing strangers. You may learn that one of them has taken ill: woken up perchance on a beautiful idyllic morning with a sore throat and pressure under the cheeks. Luckily, among the charming amenities of such brilliant resorts, is a doctor on site. As a physician yourself, you may roll your eyes as they describe how the doctor proclaimed sinusi...

Lies, Half-Truths, and Deliberately Misleading Adolescents about Sex at Hillsboro High
More on this when I’m not sick with a sore throat. For now I will just say that I consider it morally repugnant to mislead teens and to present them with religious opinions about sex in a public school setting instead of facts that could help keep them healthy. Want to complain about the possibility of condoms failing? Then talk about correct use, back-ups, and emergency contraception. This lecture was nothing more than fear-mongering and trying to drum up new clients for a faith-based “clinic” that will not provide birth control or refer for abortion services – in other words, they want women to ma...

Let’s Help Oklahoma
I have been feeling pretty sorry for myself this week. For the first time in about 4 years I caught a really bad cold. I won’t claim it was the flu like so many people do when they get a heavy cold. I’ve had the proper flu twice in my life and it’s not the same thing at all. Nevertheless, I had to cancel a load of client sessions and have had real problems concentrating and even staying awake. I tend not to watch, listen or read the news because it usually just brings me down, but it has been difficult not to get sucked into the terrible situation in Oklahoma. Like any tragedy there have been stories of amazing h...

3 ways for doctors to reclaim their value
A few years ago, I sat in a coding lecture for urgent care providers given by a very entrepreneurial physician assistant. An emergency room doctor, who had recently established his own private clinic, put up his hand to ask a question. He seemed puzzled. “I can see your point about coding at a higher level for a sore throat when I was younger,” he said. “I used to take longer to figure out what was wrong. But now that I’m faster and more experienced, I don’t think I should be using the higher codes.” Needless to say, the physician assistant was dumbfounded. Continue reading ...
