A Case for Vaccinating Teachers First
Most agree that America ' s 18 million health care workers should top the list for COVID-19 vaccination. The 3.3 million teachers should come next. Vaccinating teachers could make it possible to open schools permanently and get parents back to work. That would help the economy recover. (Source: The RAND Blog)

What I Got Wrong (and Right) about COVID19
In May, I wrote a column about COVID19 that got some attention. My reason for writing was the change in messaging about the strategy of flatten-the-curve. We were first told to flatten-the-curve to prevent overwhelming hospitals. But then the thinking changed to flatten-the-curve to save lives.  I made eight assertions about COVID19. Let’s see how I did.  Assertion 1: The virus will not be contained. Verdict: Correct. You might argue that New Zealand and Australia contained the virus, but I would counter that these are not fair comparisons to the US, Canada, and the EU.  Assertion 2: Tests...

Will women in medicine survive COVID-19?
How are two-career households with children — let alone single-parent households — going to manage with daycare centers and schools closed, perhaps for a long time to come? What damage will this do to career progression and earning potential if one parent must cut back on work? Will childcare demands inevitably delay or derail partnership […]Find jobs at  Careers by KevinMD.com.  Search thousands of physician, PA, NP, and CRNA jobs now.  Learn more. 9 Technologies That Will Shape The Future Of Dentistry
One of the most common childhood fears is going to the dentist. Who would not relate? Sitting in a huge chair illuminated by blinding light; enduring lengthy seated sessions with someone looking and poking inside your mouth using edgy and frightening devices. And finally, when the torture is over, that same someone tells you not to eat your favourite sweets and instructs you to brush your teeth regularly.  We’ve all been through this as a kid and childhood memories stick with us; just recalling this might send a shiver down your spine. No one likes to go to the dentist in spite of the fact that everyone knows how crucia...

Viruses on Motorcycles
By ANISH KOKA The most recent fiction dressed up as science about COVID comes to us courtesy of a viral Washington Post article.  “How the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally may have spread coronavirus across the Upper Midwest” screams the headline.   The charge made is that “within weeks” of the gathering that drew nearly half a million visitors the Dakota’s and adjacent states are experiencing a surge of COVID cases.   The Sturgis Rally happens to be a popular motorcycle rally held in Sturgis, South Dakota every August that created much consternation this year because it wasn’t cancel...

Jurisprudence Questions for Judicial Nominees That Are Actually Interesting
Jay SchweikertSo far, the Amy Coney Barrett confirmation hearings are proceeding in the way most people probably expected. Judge Barrett is confidently and calmly discussing her approach to judging, ably explaining past comments and decisions, and — in accordance with the long‐standing practice of prior nominees — refusing to give commitments or comments about particular issues or cases. And the Senators are largely using the hearing to make political speeches. Democrats have mostly made policy arguments in support of the Affordable Care Act, criticized President Trump, and asked case‐specific questions they ...

At-Home Clinical ECG: Now and After The Pandemic – Interview with Dr. Ruey-Kang Chang, CEO, QT Medical
Many fields of medicine are undergoing a transformation due to the COVID-19 pandemic, as patients are kept away from clinics as much as possible. Patients are now regularly visited by their doctors over video calls, are asked to perform certain procedures on their own, and are prescribed medical devices that would normally be used by clinical staff. Heart monitoring is the most important component of medical care for millions of people suffering from cardiovascular conditions, particularly those most at risk from COVID-19 complications. But receiving a clinical grade electrocardiogram (ECG) normally involves office...
