Timing and Degree of Acute Kidney Injury in Patients Requiring Non-Surgical Intensive Care
CONCLUSIONS: AKI on admission, even Class R, was associated with a poor prognosis. An increase in RIFLE class during hospitalization was identified as an important factor for poor prognosis in patients requiring intensive care.PMID:37648518 | DOI:10.1253/circj.CJ-23-0320

Preparation, Purification and Performance Evaluation of Polyclonal Antibody Against SARS-CoV-2 Produced in Rat
CONCLUSION: Herein, we presented a simple and cheap method for the purification of whole viral particles with relatively high quality. The results verified that these antigens could elicit a good immune response in the rat. The obtained pAbs showed a good specificity toward SARS-CoV-2 antigens. Accordingly, this study proposes a promising method for viral vaccine development.PMID:37646054 | PMC:PMC10460799 | DOI:10.34172/apb.2023.059

Success rate and safety of living donor kidney transplantation in ABO blood group incompatible relatives: A systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSION: Good long- and short-term patient outcomes and graft survival rates were observed after ABO-I kidney transplantation. Similarly, the safety of performing kidney transplantations from living donors with ABO-I blood groups was established by the results of the current meta-analysis. Therefore, ABO-I live-donor kidney transplantations should be encouraged to reduce the time recipients spend on waiting lists and supplement the existing paired-exchange donor program.PMID:37648033 | DOI:10.1016/j.trim.2023.101921

Frequent vascular access thrombosis in a patient with end stage kidney disease on hemodialysis
This article reviews the association between hypercoagulability and VAT and the high prevalence of hypercoagulable states in end-stage kidney disease (ESKD). This article reviews the role of antithrombotic and anticoagulant medications in preventing VAT. The article concludes by reviewing the unique challenges of using vitamin K antagonists in patients with ESKD.PMID:37641427 | DOI:10.1111/sdi.13172

The Significance of Historical Troponin Elevation in Acute Heart Failure: Not as Reassuring as Previously Assumed
CONCLUSION: Historical cTn elevation in AHF patients is a harbinger of worse outcomes for patients who have not had a prior IHD work-up, and should prompt evaluation for underlying ischemia rather than reassurance for discharge. With known IHD history, historical cTn elevation was neither reassuring nor detrimental, failing to add incremental prognostic value to current cTn elevation alone.PMID:37641846 | DOI:10.1111/acem.14798

Use of incremental peritoneal dialysis: impact on clinical outcomes and quality of life measure
CONCLUSION: These results suggest that there may be benefits of using incremental PD in the context of continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis, particularly with respect to quality of life as a prescription strategy when initiating peritoneal dialysis. While no significant benefits of incremental peritoneal dialysis were detected among patients initiating automated peritoneal dialysis, no detrimental effects of using incremental schedules were observed for either peritoneal dialysis type.PMID:37644364 | DOI:10.1007/s40620-023-01703-y
