Usefulness of one-arm motorized gait device for chronic hemiplegic stroke survivors
CONCLUSION: The results of this study suggest that one-arm motorized gait devices developed for hemiplegic stroke survivors may be more effective potentially than parallel bars and hemi-walkers in gait assistance of chronic hemiplegic stroke survivors.PMID:37661897 | DOI:10.3233/THC-230197

Insight into the mechanisms of neuroendocrine toxicity induced by 6:2FTCA via thyroid hormone disruption
In this study, zebrafish embryos were treated to varied doses of 6:2 FTCA (0, 0.08 μg/mL, 0.8 μg/mL and 8 μg/mL) at four hours post-fertilization (hpf) for a duration of six days, which exhibited a pronounced inhibition of early growth and induced a disorganized swim pattern characterized by reduced total swim distance and average swim speed. Simultaneously, the thyroid development of zebrafish larvae was partially hindered, accompanied by decreased T3 levels, altered genes associated with the expression of thyroid hormone synthesis, transformation and transportation and neurotransmitters associated with tryptophan and ...

A structural equation modeling approach to investigate HIV testing willingness for men who have sex with men in China
CONCLUSION: HIV testing needs to be increased among MSM as they exhibit a moderate willingness to test. Improving education on HIV knowledge and risk behavior might enhance the willingness of MSM to test for HIV in China.PMID:37661282 | DOI:10.1186/s12981-023-00561-9

New insights into the mechanisms of diabetic kidney disease: Role of circadian rhythm and Bmal1
Biomed Pharmacother. 2023 Sep 1;166:115422. doi: 10.1016/j.biopha.2023.115422. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIt is common for diabetic kidney disease (DKD) to be complicated by abnormal blood glucose, blood lipids, and blood pressure rhythms. Thus, it is essential to examine diagnostic and treatment plans from the perspective of circadian disruption. This brief review discusses the clinical relevance of circadian rhythms in DKD and how the core clock gene encoding brain and muscle arnt-like protein 1 (BMAL1) functions owing to the importance of circadian rhythm disruption processes, including the excretion of urinary prote...

Inhibition of myeloid-derived suppressor cell (MDSC) activity by redox-modulating agents restores T and B cell proliferative responses in murine AIDS
This study preliminarily explored the role of two redox-modulating compounds in inhibiting the M-MDSC suppressive activity in LP-BM5 infection. The tested molecules were: I-152 consisting in a conjugate of N-acetyl-cysteine (NAC) and S-acetyl-cysteamine (SMEA) and C4-GSH that is the n-butanoyl glutathione (GSH) derivative. The results show that both molecules, tested in a concentration range between 3 and 20 mM, blocked the M-MDSC suppression of activated B and T cells ex vivo and restored their proliferative capacity in vivo. Ex vivo I-152 blockade of M-MDSC suppressiveness was more significant for T cell (about 70%) whil...
