COVID-19 public health surveillance and response in Taiwan: From containment to mitigation
J Formos Med Assoc. 2023 Aug 21:S0929-6646(23)00330-3. doi: 10.1016/j.jfma.2023.08.016. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTTaiwan learned from its 2003 SARS experience and established multiple surveillance systems to be able to detect and respond to COVID-19. With the find, test, trace, isolate, and support (FTTIS) strategy, Taiwan was successful in containing SARS-CoV-2 from spreading for two years. During the surge of the Omicron variant in the community, COVID-19 control strategy shifted from containment to mitigation in April 2022, to reduce morbidity and mortality. Lessons learned from COVID-19 response re-emphasizes the i...

Delivering Acupuncture Therapy in an Interdisciplinary Global Health Setting in Guatemala: Pilot Study and Lessons Learned
CONCLUSIONS: Reporting high symptom burdens, most patients were unfamiliar with AT. AT ceased when the licensed acupuncturist contracted COVID. Patients will be followed in 2023 and AT will be given to collect data on feasibility, satisfaction, and possible implementation.PMID:37609548 | PMC:PMC10440642 | DOI:10.1089/acu.2023.0023

Providing palliative and end-of-life care in long-term care during the COVID-19 pandemic: a qualitative study of clinicians' lived experiences
This study explored the experiences of long-term care clinicians with respect to providing palliative and end-of-life care during the COVID-19 pandemic.METHODS: We used a qualitative research approach. Long-term care physicians and nurse practitioners (NPs) in Ontario, Canada, participated in semistructured interviews between August and September of 2021. Interviews were undertaken virtually, and results were analyzed using thematic analysis.RESULTS: Twelve clinicians (7 physicians and 5 NPs) were interviewed. We identified 5 themes, each with several subthemes: providing a palliative approach to care, increased work deman...

Programmed cell death pathways as targets for developing antifilarial drugs: Lessons from the recent findings
J Cell Mol Med. 2023 Aug 22. doi: 10.1111/jcmm.17913. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMore than half a century has passed since the introduction of the National Filariasis Control Program; however, as of 2023, lymphatic filariasis (LF) still prevails globally, particularly in the tropical and subtropical regions, posing a substantial challenge to the objective of worldwide elimination. LF is affecting human beings and its economically important livestock leading to a crucial contributor to morbidities and disabilities. The current scenario has been blowing up alarms of attention to develop potent therapeutics and strategies ...

Taking Action Against Clinician Burnout Through Reducing the Documentation Burden With an Operating Room Supply Scanning Approach
This study shows that an interdisciplinary team can effectively work to optimize documentation efficiency and performance improvement using a scanning intervention. Lessons learned through this process can translate into optimizations elsewhere in the electronic medical record.PMID:37607689 | DOI:10.1097/CIN.0000000000001058

Addressing the GP vocational training crisis in remote Australia: Lessons from the Northern Territory
CONCLUSION: Multifaceted strategies to increase GP training uptake are needed, which target different stages of GP training. Effective action is likely to require multiple strategies with coordinated action by different jurisdictional and national key stakeholder agencies. Foremost amongst the interventions required is the urgent need to expand primary care training opportunities in NT for prevocational doctors.PMID:37607122 | DOI:10.1111/ajr.13029
